SNMMI inducts six new fellows at 2026 annual meeting

The Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging (SNMMI) named six new fellows during its 2026 Annual Meeting, held May 30 through June 2 in Los Angeles.

The 2026 SNMMI fellows include the following:

  • Gholam Reza Berenji, MD, director of nuclear cardiology at the VA Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System and adjunct professor at the University of Victoria, British Columbia, Canada.
  • Mehdi Djekidel, MD, associate professor of radiology at the Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra University and attending physician at Northwell Health in Manhasset, NY.
  • Giuseppe Esposito, MD, chief of nuclear medicine at Medstar Georgetown University Hospital and professor of radiology at the Medstar Medical Group Radiology in Washington, DC.
  • Homer Macapinlac, MD, professor of cancer imaging systems at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston.
  • John Prior, PhD, MD, professor and head of nuclear medicine and molecular imaging at Lausanne University Hospital in Switzerland.
  • Josh Mailman, honorary fellow, recognized for his advocacy work for neuroendocrine tumor patients and nuclear medicine.

The SNMMI also honored Libero Marzella, MD, PhD, past director of the Division of Imaging and Radiation Medicine at the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). And SNMMI's 2025/26 president, Jean-Luc Urbain, MD, PhD, will be honored as a fellow following his term, per society tradition.
