AI model identifies high-risk lung cancer in nonsmokers
A group in Boston has validated an AI algorithm that could be useful for identifying nonsmokers who are at high risk of lung cancer, according to a study to be presented at RSNA 2023 in Chicago.

Hip x-rays help screen for osteoporosis in THA patients
Plain hip x-rays may help screen patients for osteoporosis before they undergo total hip arthroplasty (THA).

FAPI-PET shows promise for detecting pancreatic cancer
FAPI-PET imaging may become a powerful diagnostic tool for detecting pancreatic cancer.
November 20, 2023
A male patient with suspected recurrent pancreatic cancer. Contrast-enhanced CT shows mass around superior mesenteric artery after pancreatectomy. F-18 FDG only shows discrete uptake of lesion (SUVmax, 3.8), whereas Ga-68 FAPI clearly visualizes recurrent tumor. Patient received adjuvant chemotherapy after Ga-68 FAPI. Patient denied recommended chemotherapy. Increase of CA19-9 levels (from 240 U/mL to 767 U/mL) and follow-up imaging eight months later validated progression of mesenteric mass as well as increased F-18 FDG uptake (SUVmax, 5.3). Study reveals timing in Alzheimer’s disease progression
Researchers have shed light on events involved in the Alzheimer’s disease “cascade hypothesis" – namely, the timing of biomarker progression that leads to neurodegeneration.

AI detects incidental lung nodules on chest x-rays
AI based lesion-detection software used in daily practice can help identify clinically significant incidental lung nodules on chest x-rays
November 16, 2023
A true positive case in a 72-year-old male with a granuloma on chest x-ray after visiting the neurology outpatient clinic for memory disturbance. A small lung nodule was detected in the left-middle to lower lung field by AI software, with an abnormality score of 26%. Co-existing fibrosis was suspected in the apex of bilateral upper lungs, with an abnormality score of 76%. Image courtesy of Scientific Reports.

Can AI predict treatment response in patients with prostate cancer?
An AI model based on F-18 DCFPyL PSMA-PET/CT images will be presented here that shows promise for predicting treatment response in patients with metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer.

Does contrast media used with PET/MRI make a difference?
Findings presented during this session suggest that the use of MRI contrast agents during PET/MRI exams has no additional positive benefit for primary and follow-up staging of pediatric lymphoma patients.

Can FDG-PET/MRI radiomics help diagnose rhabdomyosarcoma in children?
In this session on pediatrics and general oncology, a study will be presented that explored the value of F-18 FDG-PET/MRI radiomics features in predicting rhabdomyosarcoma in children.
