The American College of Radiology (ACR) and other leading lung cancer screening organizations are touting the upcoming National Lung Cancer Screening Day on November 12.
The event is being promoted by the ACR and the American Cancer Society, the GO2 Foundation for Lung Cancer, the National Lung Cancer Roundtable, and the Radiology Healthy Equity Coalition. Centers across the U.S. are encouraged to offer low-dose CT lung cancer screening to individuals in their communities.
Last year, the USPSTF updated its recommendation for low-dose CT lung cancer screening, but screening uptake has been less than robust, especially among vulnerable populations, according to an American Cancer Society (ACS) statement released November 7.
"Access to and utilization of lung cancer screening has been particularly challenging for rural and racial/ethnic minority groups, including those who are more likely to live more than 40 miles away from a designated lung cancer screening center, be underinsured, and have lower health literacy," the ACS said.
