Digital x-ray developer Bioptics said that it has received a small business grant from the National Cancer Institute (NCI) to complete the development of its direct digital mammography cassette.
The Tucson, AZ-based company said the cassette is designed to upgrade conventional film-based mammography systems to direct digital mammography. The cassette is compatible with all conventional 18 x 24-cm and 24 x 30-cm mammography bucky assemblies; yet, unlike CR plates, the digital cassette requires no external digitizers, and provides 50-micron true digital resolution within seven seconds of x-ray exposure.
Bioptics reported that it anticipates shipping systems in the second quarter of 2007 following U.S. Food and Drug Administration clearance.
