GE sees higher ultrasound revenues

Corporate acquisitions and new product launches helped the ultrasound division of GE Medical Systems increase its revenue sharply in 2001. The Waukesha, WI, company said global ultrasound sales exceeded $870 million in 2001, up approximately 32% from the more than $660 million booked in 2000.

The latest results mark the seventh consecutive annual sales gain of more than 15% for the division, according to the Waukesha, WI-based vendor. GE does not break out profitability figures for the ultrasound business.

GE continued its rapid pace of acquisitions last year. After buying companies such as bone densitometry firm Lunar and ultrasound transducer manufacturer Parallel Design in 2000, GE purchased ultrasound technology developers Echotech and Kretztechnik in 2001.
