Proton therapy developer Ion Beam Applications (IBA) has announced the opening of a new center to provide proton therapy in India.
IBA provided its Proteus Plus multiroom proton therapy system to Apollo Proton Cancer Centre in Chennai, which treated its first patient on January 2. IBA believes the patient was the first to be treated with proton therapy in Southeast Asia.
The patient was treated for prostate cancer, and proton therapy was used to maximize preservation of healthy tissue.
