Sun Nuclear, a Mirion Medical company based in Melbourne, FL, is releasing Simon command center software globally. The cloud-based, vendor-agnostic software pulls linear accelerator (linac) quality assurance (QA) data from different devices, vendors, and clinical sites into a single record that can be compared across all of them.
Simon works with the company’s SunCheck QA software or on its own. It uses statistical process control to flag machine drift before a tolerance is exceeded, according to the firm. Other features include the following:
A fleet-wide view of machine status, with one calendar for QA checks, downtime, repairs, and calibrations
Monitoring of whether QA standards are being followed across staff and sites
Support for accreditation and audit preparation
Simon was unveiled at the recent American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO) annual meeting in Boston in a case-based presentation by NYU Langone Health, a clinical development partner. The system loaded QA data, machine logs, and Machine Performance Check results from nine linacs across five regions into Simon. The software flagged a jaw offset, an isocenter offset, and a couch-shift alert while each machine was still within tolerance, Sun Nuclear said.
