Tracheobronchomegaly (Mounier-Kuhn syndrome):
Clinical:
Tracheobronchomegaly is a rare condition primarily affecting men between the ages of 40 to 50 years. The etiology is felt to be related to atrophy of smooth muscle and elastic tissue in the airway walls [2]. In a majority of patients there is accompanying bronchiectasis involving the first through fourth prder divisions of bronchi. The most frequent clinical complaint is recurrent infection due to retained secretions [2].X-ray:
In men, the transverse diameter of the trachea is greater than 25 mm (or 21mm in women), and the sagittal diameter greater than 27 mm (23mm in women). The diameters of the right and left mainstem bronchi will exceed 21.1 mm (20mm women) and 18.4 mm (17.5 mm women), respectively.
