The American College of Radiology (ACR) Foundation has partnered with the Cancer Doesn't Care initiative to launch a fund aimed at expanding lung cancer screening access and early detection for people at high risk who fall outside current screening guidelines.
The Cancer Doesn't Care Fund will support pilot programs, community partnerships, technology development, and policy research, with a focus on uninsured and underserved patients, according to the ACR Foundation. Funding will come from private donors, foundations, industry partners, and grants.
The initiative targets a gap in current U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) lung cancer screening criteria, which are based primarily on age and smoking history, potentially excluding those who have never smoked or smoked minimally, according to the announcement.
