Varian posts record year

Varian Medical Systems reported record fiscal 2004 revenues of $1.2 billion, up 19% compared to the $1 billion booked in fiscal 2003. For the year (end-October 1), the Palo Alto, CA-based vendor had net earnings of $167 million, compared to net earnings of $131 million for fiscal 2003.

Varian recorded fourth-quarter revenues of $345 million, up 14% compared to the $303 million turned in last year. For the quarter, Varian had net earnings of $52 million, compared to net earnings of $44 million in the same period a year ago.

Varian chairman and CEO Richard Levy said the company had an outstanding quarter and fiscal year with growth in all of its segments. Varian experienced strong demand for new products that support more precise image-guided and stereotactic cancer treatments, and solid revenue growth was also generated in its emerging flat-panel, brachytherapy, and security and inspection products, he said.
