New Zealand-based medical technology company Wellumio has raised $7.3 million to continue development of its portable MRI device, Axana.
Axana is a 0.1-tesla portable MRI device powered by pulsed gradient-free mapping, which eliminates the need for bulky components and enables imaging in a portable design ideal for bedside use, according to the firm. The device was granted a U.S. patent in December 2025 and is designed to rapidly detect acute stroke, Wellumio said.
Lead investors of the funding round included Nuance Connected Capital supported by Icehouse Ventures, NZ Growth Capital Partners (NZGCP)’s Aspire Seed Fund, Pacific Channel, Booster, and Cure Kids Ventures, the company noted.
