Corsmed launches free tier of MRI simulator

Swedish medical education software developer Corsmed is offering free access to its MRI simulator for students and MRI professionals, with no time limit on use.

The free tier covers head and knee anatomies and eight pulse sequences: turbo spin echo, spin echo, gradient echo, FLAIR, inversion recovery spin echo, inversion recovery turbo spin echo, single-shot fast spin echo, and MP-RAGE. It runs on the same simulation engine as the paid platform, meaning parameter changes produce the correct image effects (including artifacts, contrast, resolution, SNR, scan time, CNR, SAR), exactly as they would on a real scanner, according to the company. Corsmed said the free tier is meant to widen hands-on access for trainees whose programs lack scanner time or budget.

Users include University College London Hospitals (UCLH), British Columbia Institute of Technology, and City St George’s, University of London. UCLH has reported that new MRI radiographers reach clinical competence in three to four months with the simulator, compared with six months previously, the firm noted.

The paid version adds more than 60 anatomies, more than 30 pulse sequences, pathology simulation, and learning management system integration for multi-student management, Corsmed added.
