Yale School of Medicine has launched the Yale Biomedical Imaging Institute, a new cross-disciplinary hub to unite imaging technology, clinical translation, and data science.
Leading radiologists include Yale PET Center director Georges El Fakhri, PhD, who will serve as the institute's inaugural director; Chi Liu, PhD, whose research has focused on quantitative cardiac and oncological PET/CT and SPECT/CT imaging, including deep-learning algorithms, reconstruction algorithms, data correction, dynamic imaging, and translational imaging; and Douglas Rothman, PhD, director of Yale's Magnetic Resonance Research Center (MRRC).
Others distinguished in the announcement include Dustin Scheinost, PhD; Xenophon Papademetris, PhD; and Kelly Cosgrove, PhD.
The institute will integrate the work of Yale's PET Center and MRRC, along with data science and imaging informatics expertise, Yale said. Initial initiatives include training opportunities for postdocs and students and exploratory funding opportunities.
Brian Smith, MD, deputy dean for clinical and translational research, said the institute will support research in brain, cancer, cardiovascular, and inflammation imaging, while expanding efforts in early disease detection.
