The Cardiac PET Alliance has formally launched as a coalition dedicated to advancing cardiac PET, protecting patient access and educating policymakers, physicians, and patients on the technology's role in detecting and diagnosing heart disease.
The Alliance represents more than 1,200 cardiologists across 101 cardiovascular group practices in 24 states, supporting practices that perform more than 400,000 cardiac PET studies annually, according to the organization. The group was formed to help ensure continued patient access to non-invasive imaging for cardiovascular conditions including coronary artery disease and coronary microvascular dysfunction.
The launch comes ahead of planned meetings this fall with members of Congress in Washington, DC, where Alliance leaders intend to discuss preserving access to cardiac PET imaging, particularly for underserved populations, the group said. The Cardiac PET Alliance collaborates with organizations including the American College of Cardiology, MedAxiom, the American Society of Nuclear Cardiology, and the Association of Black Cardiologists on education, research, and advocacy efforts related to cardiac PET imaging.
