Insightec is highlighting a study published in The Lancet Neurology showing that staged bilateral MR-guided focused ultrasound (MRgFUS) treatment using the company's Exablate Neuro system improves motor symptoms in patients with Parkinson's disease.
The trial enrolled 54 patients at nine centers across the U.S., Spain, and Taiwan between 2021 and 2023. Patients underwent a unilateral MRgFUS procedure followed by a second-side procedure at least six months later, according to the study.

Key findings included a 66.8% improvement in overall motor complications three months after bilateral treatment, a 32.6% improvement in the primary motor endpoint three months after the second-side procedure, and a reduction in patient-reported time experiencing dyskinesia from approximately 75% of waking hours at baseline to 14% following the second-side procedure Time spent in the off state fell approximately 50%, according to the study. Most adverse events were mild to moderate, though speech and gait effects were more frequent following second-side treatment.
Insightec's Exablate Neuro platform received U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval in July 2025 for staged bilateral pallidothalamic tractotomy treatment in patients with advanced Parkinson's disease symptoms. More than 30,000 patients have been treated with Exablate technology across 214 centers worldwide, according to Insightec.
