M*Modal adds structured report templates, new partners

Speech recognition firm M*Modal of Pittsburgh announced the addition of almost 70 RSNA-based structured reporting templates into its Speech Understanding software.

After a structured template is selected from an onscreen menu in the software, the template's data fields can be quickly navigated and filled in via speech recognition, with visual prompts for required information choices, according to the company.

M*Modal has also mapped the template data fields to ontologies such as RadLex to enable automatically encoded data and semantic interoperability.

In other company news, M*Modal has announced several new collaborative efforts.

M*Modal and Poiesis Informatics of Pittsburgh have partnered to integrate Speech Understanding into the Poiesis Workflow Orchestration Suite to upgrade Fluency, a speech-driven diagnostic reporting tool for PACS users. Fluency is the first Poiesis product to use the M*Modal software.

The company has also teamed up with DR Systems of San Diego to integrate Speech Understanding with DR System's Unity RIS/PACS. This collaboration is expected to enhance the DR Systems Instant Reporter module capabilities used to expedite reporting across a healthcare enterprise.

Los Angeles-based imaging services provider RadNet has chosen M*Modal's Speech Understanding to be integrated into its workflow systems to provide advanced speech and documentation capabilities for its nearly 200 diagnostic imaging centers throughout the U.S.

Finally, teleradiology services provider Virtual Radiologic (vRad) of Eden Prairie, MN, has partnered with M*Modal to integrate Speech Understanding into its Enterprise Connect 3.0 Technology Suite, which offers radiologists worklist management, reading, and report generation capabilities.
