Abbott facility to produce Adenoscan

Fujisawa Healthcare has announced that the Food and Drug Administration has approved a supplemental new drug application related to one of its products. The action allows Fujisawa's partner, Abbott Laboratories, to produce Fujisawa's Adenoscan myocardial perfusion stress agent and Adenocard therapeutic agent at Abbott’s Rocky Mount, NC, manufacturing facility.

For Deerfield, IL-based Fujisawa, the deal offers increased manufacturing capability for its adenosine products. Fujisawa licenses both Adenoscan and Adenocard from Medco Research.

Both agents will also continue to be manufactured by American Pharmaceutical Partners at its Grand Island, NY, facility. In mid-January, APP began a recall of Adenoscan due to chipped and leaking vials, and the possible presence of glass particles in the contrast solution.
