ASRT works to define role of radiation therapists

The American Society of Radiologic Technologists (ASRT) and other societies have formed a consensus workgroup to evaluate and define the role of advanced practice radiation therapists within radiation oncologist-led teams.

Led by the ASRT and the American Association of Medical Dosimetrists (AAMD), the workgroup also aims to understand the workforce needs of the medical dosimetrist community, the ASRT said. It includes other appointees from the American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASRO), the American College of Radiology (ACR), the American Association of Physicists in Medicine (AAPM), the Advanced Practice Radiation Therapy (APRT) Working Group, the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT), and the Society for Radiation Oncology Administrators (SROA). Representatives from Varian and Elekta will provide members of the workgroup with an industry perspective, the ASRT noted.

This and other workgroups were formed after the February 2024 Consensus Committee on the Future of Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy meeting, the ASRT said.
