The Medical Group Management Association (MGMA) and more than 25 other medical organizations have urged the U.S. Congress to reauthorize a version of the Medicare Access and Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP) Reauthorization Act of 2015 (MACRA) with a series of reforms.
In a letter to the chairs and ranking members of the Senate Finance Committee and the House committees on Ways and Means and Energy and Commerce, the coalition said reforms to MACRA could stabilize physician payments and expand participation in value-based care models.
Specifically, the proposed changes include permanent annual inflation-based updates to Medicare physician payments, modernized financial incentives for Advanced Alternative Payment Model (APM) participation, reduced administrative burdens, and expanded support for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Innovation Center to develop models tailored to rural communities and patients with chronic conditions.
The letter also thanked Congress for including an extension of APM incentive payments in the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2026.
Signatories include the American Medical Association, American Hospital Association, American Society for Radiation Oncology, Association of Cancer Care Centers, and Medical Group Management Association, among others.
