Speech recognition and transcription technology provider MedQuist has agreed to settle a 2004 class-action lawsuit that alleged that the Mount Laurel, NJ, company overcharged for its transcription services.
Under the proposed settlement, MedQuist will pay $7.5 million to resolve all claims by the plaintiffs and certain other class members represented by plaintiffs' counsel, but not named in the action. The parties who brought the class action have released the company from any and all claims and dismiss the action.
Neither the company nor any of the individual defendants have admitted to liability or any wrongdoing in connection with the proposed settlement, the company said.
The class-action suit was filed on September 9, 2004, against MedQuist in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California by the South Broward Hospital District (d/b/a Memorial Regional Hospital), based in California.
