Sun Microsystems to join national EHR initiative

Computer workstation firm Sun Microsystems of Santa Clara, CA, will join a consortium led by Computer Sciences of El Segundo, CA, and McLean, VA-based Northrop Grumman to help support the development of a prototype for a nationwide health information network architecture.

The effort to establish a secure, standards-compliant framework for the exchange of electronic health records (EHR) throughout the U.S. is financed in part by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

The contract, which has one base year and a one-year option, is valued at approximately $7 million to the CSC-led team, if the option is exercised.
