Sorna debuts new software packages

PACS technology developer Sorna of Eagan, MN, is introducing new software packages at this week's RSNA meeting in Chicago.

Sorna's Reviewer software includes both manual and automated tools that help clinicians import outside data into a PACS. Users can take DICOM data from a disk and transfer it to their PACS or DICOM archive. The software displays medical images and structured reports, and can create CDs or DVDs on the user's personal computer's CD or DVD recorder with Windows XP. It can also support the Elesys Duet drive, which allows users to make disks and print labels directly onto them. Reviewer can also separate single studies into multiple ones, or vice versa.

In addition, Reviewer allows clinicians to transfer diagnostic images and reports from a personal computer with Windows XP to an Apple iPod. Reviewer communicates with any DICOM storage device, as well as DICOM CD or DVD burners, networked drives, memory sticks, and now the Apple iPod. The software can write JPEG and DICOM files of diagnostic images, 3D visualizations, reports, and other medical data to the iPod; users then have the option to transfer this data to another DICOM device or synchronize it with an iTunes media library. Reviewer will be available from Sorna's Web site in early 2007.

Sorna has also upgraded its eXpedo product, workflow software that is part of the company's DICOM CD/DVD publishing systems, including eXpedo XR1 and eXpedo XR2. The upgraded package is based on DISCflow profiles. eXpedo's DISCflow reduces the amount of staff time needed to produce DICOM DISCs. New features include built-in DICOM CD/DVD importer software that conforms to IHE PDI Portable Media Importer Actor; the Importer can now be installed on any Windows XP computer. It also includes the ability to create a new DICOM disk from the import data by sending the images or reports to any DISCflow profile on any eXpedo server in the network. The package can perform automatic, scheduled backups as well.
