InSightec gets Texas install

InSightec has installed its ExAblate 2000 MRI-guided focused-ultrasound treatment system at the North Texas Uterine Fibroid Institute in Dallas.

The Haifa, Israel-based firm said that an MRI scanner provides 3D images of the fibroid and surrounding tissue, enabling precise guidance of ultrasound to the target, which raises the temperature of the tissue and destroys it. The thermal imaging capabilities of the MRI unit provide real-time feedback on the temperature achieved at the target tissue during treatment, helping to ensure therapy outcome control, according to InSightec.
