Siemens, BrainLab display NaviVision at RSNA

Siemens Medical Solutions and image-guided therapy developer BrainLab showed the companies' work-in-progress NaviVision system this week at RSNA 2005 in Chicago.

Siemens of Malvern, PA, combined its Arcadis line of mobile C-arms with Munich, Germany-based BrainLab's optical 2D/3D navigation unit to minimize the footprint of two medical systems for easier access at an operating table. NaviVision's navigation screen can be attached directly to the C-arm's workstation or directly to the OR table, according to Siemens. With a touch screen, a surgeon can operate the system's monitor and switch between axial or lateral views, the company added.

The companies expect NaviVision to be available in January 2006.
