ONC announces certification firms

The U.S. Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) has announced the first two organizations authorized to test and certify electronic health record (EHR) systems and EHR modules.

The Certification Commission for Health Information Technology (CCHIT) of Chicago and the Drummond Group of Austin, TX, a commercial interoperability test lab, will test and certify EHR systems and modules for compliance with the meaningful use standards and certification criteria established by the U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) in a final rule issued on July 28, 2010.
