Fujifilm opts out of SIIM 2009 exhibit

Fujifilm Medical Systems USA of Stamford, CT, has decided not to exhibit at this year's annual meeting of the Society for Imaging Informatics in Medicine (SIIM) in Charlotte, NC, in June.

The company noted that its decision was based on expenditures in the current economic times and the need to focus on maintaining product development and customer service.

In a written statement, Randy Nagel, Fujifilm's director of corporate communications, said the decision "was certainly difficult to make. We remain steadfast in our support of the SIIM organization and the educational mission and research endeavors it drives forward. By diverting resources such as those allocated to this year's SIIM exhibit, our goal is to continue our strong investment in product innovation, customer service and product support; areas that we believe our customers will reap the most benefits from investment."

Fujifilm became the first corporate member of SIIM almost 20 years ago, when the organization was known as the Society for Computer Applications in Radiology (SCAR).
