IBM of Armonk, NY, has won a contract to help provide telemedicine in Pakistan, the company reported.
IBM is partnering with the U.S. Department of State in the Pakistan Telemedicine Project, which includes an Internet-access portal providing interactive collaboration tools such as secure e-mail and voice and video conferencing on a secure telemedicine network with medical peripheral devices like portable ultrasound, digital cameras, ECG, stethoscopes, and x-ray machines.
The partnership also includes Wateen Telecom, Motorola, Medweb, the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), the U.S. Department of Defense Telemedicine and Advanced Technology Research Center, the Pakistani government, District Headquarters Hospital in Attock, and the central coordinating hospital for the project, Holy Family Hospital in Rawalpindi.
