Philips to develop wireless MCA device

Andover, MA-based Philips Medical Systems plans to design, manufacture, and ship a mobile clinical assistant (MCA), which would create an integrated, wireless device to access patient information in electronic medical records (EMRs) from a patient's bedside.

The MCA will be developed with input from clinicians, clinical workflow studies, and ethnography research conducted by Intel of Santa Clara, CA.

Philips plans to begin production of the MCA in the fourth quarter of this year.

Concept designs of the Philips MCA are showcased at this week's annual meeting of the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) in New Orleans.
