Canada Infoway adds drug information system preferred providers

The Canada Health Infoway project has signed preferred supplier agreements with two drug information system development firms.

The Preferred Solution Agreements are designed to make it easier and less costly for Canadian healthcare providers to implement healthcare information technology. Each company named in the agreements has demonstrated an understanding of the requirements for the pan-Canadian electronic health record and a commitment to interoperability, according to the project.

The companies selected by the Infoway project are IBM and Emergis. The vendors will offer preferred pricing arrangements to Canadian providers, as well as alternative pricing models such as provisions for a shared-services approach, in which several hospitals or regions share the same system. The vendors are also committed to providing service-level guarantees.

Canada Health Infoway said it intends to sign similar agreements with other technology providers in other healthcare informatics areas.
