Siemens to acquire GSD

Siemens Medical Solutions has agreed to purchase longtime partner Gesellschaft für Systemforschung und Dienstleistungen im Gesundheitswesen (GSD), a German developer of health information systems.

With the acquisition, Erlangen, Germany-based Siemens believes it will strengthen its position in the healthcare IT sector, especially in Germany and other European countries. GSD has more than 300 customers in 14 countries, and generated 25.6 million euros in revenue in fiscal 2005.

The acquisition is still subject to approval by antitrust authorities, Siemens said. GSD of Berlin will be a wholly owned subsidiary of Siemens Medical Solutions, and part of its Health Services division.
