CCHIT names trustee board, receives MGMA endorsement

The Certification Commission for Healthcare Information Technology (CCHIT) reported that it will turn over fiduciary responsibility for the organization to its newly formed board of trustees.

The initial seven members of the board of trustees were appointed by the operating committee composed of the three founding organizations: the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA), the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS), and the National Alliance for Health Information Technology (Alliance).

The first priority for the new board is an application for 501(c) 3 nonprofit, status with the U.S. Internal Revenue Service, the CCHIT said.

In other news, the Medical Group Management Association (MGMA) officially endorsed the organization and its efforts to certify electronic healthcare record (EHR) systems.
