CCHIT grants ambulatory EHR certification for 17 firms

U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Mike Leavitt announced today that the first ambulatory electronic health record (EHR) products have been certified by the Certification Commission for Healthcare Information Technology (CCHIT).

The 17 firms receiving CCHIT EHR certification are Allscripts, Cerner, Companion Technologies, eClinicalWorks, Emdeon Practice Services, eMDs, Epic Systems, GE Healthcare, JMJ Technologies, McKesson Provider Technologies, Medical Communication Systems, MedcomSoft, Medical Informatics Engineering, Misys Healthcare Systems, NextGen Healthcare Information Systems, Nightingale Informatix, and Practice Partner.

Twenty EHR products from these firms achieved CCHIT Certified status after undergoing inspections that demonstrated compliance with CCHIT's published criteria. Inspections are continuing, with additional results to be announced at the end of July and quarterly thereafter, the organization said.
