Cerner, UPMC ink deal

Healthcare information systems firm Cerner has launched a three-year joint initiative with the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center in Pennsylvania to create and commercialize healthcare IT offerings.

The initiative's board of directors, which will have equal representation from both Cerner and the university, will oversee the selection and development of projects, according to Cerner of Kansas City, MO. The shared efforts may include activities in supply chain, e-medicine, and community health applications, Cerner said.

The initiative is the first of its kind for Cerner.
