FCC seeks healthcare initiatives director

The U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is seeking a director of healthcare initiatives.

The new director will lead the FCC's efforts in facilitating and promoting communications technologies and services that improve the quality of U.S. healthcare and help reduce healthcare costs. The individual will also facilitate the availability of medical devices and ensure that hospitals and healthcare facilities have required connectivity.

Key responsibilities also include overseeing the overhaul of the $400 million rural healthcare program, in addition to serving as the key FCC liaison with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the National Institutes of Health (NIH).

Applications are restricted to U.S. citizens and are being accepted through January 7, 2013.
