Marconi wins $10 million PACS expansion

The University of Utah has signed a $10 million contract with Marconi Medical Systems to expand its PACS network, the Cleveland vendor is reporting.

The agreement is part of the university's goal to expand its PACS network to provide healthcare throughout the Greater Salt Lake Area. The contract will add equipment and services to the University Health Sciences Center, as well as several outlying facilities in the University of Utah Health Network.

The university began installing its Marconi PACS in 1997. The current system has about 15 diagnostic workstations, an archive, and a beta version of Marconi's Web-based distribution system. With the expansion, the university will have over 40 workstations, full Web-based image distribution, and a redundant archive, which will enable the university to move from centralized storage to a fully distributed architecture.
