PACS technology developer AccelaRad of Atlanta said it has launched an image gateway that enables the transfer of images to and from a cloud-based image repository.
Turbo Gateway -- part of the firm's SeeMyRadiology.com product suite -- overcomes the limitations of the DICOM transfer protocol to speed data over a conventional Internet connection, while continuing to support a standard interface with all PACS networks and imaging modalities, according to AccelaRad.
The package is available as software or as an appliance, and it connects directly to a facility's local area network. It includes a new data handling methodology that allows for average speeds of 4.5 CT images per second and eight MR images per second in benchmark testing over a 10 Mb/sec Internet connection, AccelaRad said.
