A Catholic University of Korea research team will present its research examining the visually lossless threshold for compressing full-field digital mammography (FFDM) images.To estimate the acceptable compression ratio for FFDM images, the researchers performed JPEG 2000 lossy compression of 80 images at eight compression ratios, according to co-author Sung Hun Kim, MD.
The researchers found that all 80 studies were indistinguishable at 20:1 and 40:1 compression. At 60:1, 77 (96.2%) of 80 were indistinguishable.
