GE Medical Systems parent General Electric has received the European Commission's preliminary findings concerning the firm's proposed acquisition of Instrumentarium. The document, entitled "Statement of Objections," reflects discussions held to date, according to Instrumentarium of Helsinki, Finland. GE and Instrumentarium are continuing discuss the acquisition with the European Commission, and the deal is expected to close in the third quarter, Instrumentarium said.
Instrumentarium declined to provide further details on the status of the EC investigation, but an article in today’s Wall Street Journal indicated that European regulatory authorities are focusing on the power that a combined GE/Instrumentarium would have in the patient-monitoring business. The authorities are reportedly not concerned about issues related to the companies’ x-ray and mammography businesses.
