CHICAGO - New enhancements to its ACR 2000 desktop computed radiography reader are on the agenda of CR and digitizer vendor Lumisys at the RSNA this week. The Sunnyvale, CA, company is showing a new version of the system, called ACR 2000i, that features an integrated phosphor plate eraser and new image processing algorithms.
Lumisys began selling ACR 2000 in late 1998 as a low-cost CR system for low-volume radiology environments. That system, however, required users to physically remove the phosphor plate from the reader and take it to a separate eraser before conducting another exam. With an integrated eraser, the new version can scan multiple consecutive plates, giving ACR 2000i a throughput of about 90 seconds per plate. Lumisys will continue to sell the earlier version of ACR 2000.
The company is also displaying iLuminator, a product package introduced in September that incorporates an ACR 2000 reader with image review and DICOM-based archiving capabilities. The package is designed to provide the connectivity required for clinics to archive studies or integrate CR into a PACS network, at a price point of less than $75,000. The iLuminator package is also being offered with the integrated eraser.
Other enhancements being displayed by the company this week include teleradiology capabilities for ACR 2000, ACR 2000i, and iLuminator, and a new quality assurance program for CR that enables users to image either a phantom or a special paper in place of a phantom. Finally, Lumisys is releasing new image processing algorithms for ACR 2000. The algorithms will be made available on a royalty-free basis to OEMs for development purposes.
