A coalition of Canadian breast cancer experts has published the country's first national consensus recommendations for breast cancer staging and treatment, covering all major breast cancer subtypes, in a suite of papers released in the journal Current Oncology.
The REAL Canadian Breast Cancer Alliance, established in 2023, developed the recommendations. The recommendations cover clinical breast cancer staging, HER2-positive breast cancer treatment, hormone receptor-positive early and advanced stage breast cancer management, and triple-negative breast cancer management.
The guidance integrates clinical data from major international conferences including the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO), the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), and the San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium.
The recommendations are available open-access to clinicians, researchers, and policymakers at realalliance.ca.
