Ill. revokes mammo license of Chicago center

The state of Illinois has revoked a Chicago imaging center's license to perform mammography after finding that the facility was failing to provide patients with reports in a timely manner.

Advanced Diagnostics had its certificate to perform mammography revoked for two years by the Illinois Emergency Management Agency (IEMA), which is charged with certifying mammography facilities in the state under the terms of the Mammography Quality Standards Act (MQSA).

The case developed after a complaint was submitted in January 2014 to the MQSA hotline alleging that Advanced Diagnostics was not providing patients with the results of their mammograms, according to a report on the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's website. An IEMA investigation substantiated the complaint, and the facility was ordered to stop performing mammograms under an emergency order.

On July 9, IEMA notified Advanced Diagnostics that its MQSA certificate to perform mammography was revoked for two years, and the center was assessed a fine of $92,000. The facility was also ordered to conduct mandatory notification of results to patients, and it has complied with the order.

Advanced Diagnostics has ceased performing mammography, according to the FDA report.
