Imaging technology developer MaxxVision has introduced iView, a handheld system that allows radiologists to digitally enhance and magnify film-screen mammography images. The system, which will be displayed at the 2003 RSNA meeting in Chicago, includes a handheld acquisition wand, a high-speed digital video processor, and a control console with an LCD monitor, according to the Gainesville, FL-based vendor.
Users can view regions of interest (ROI) on film by placing the wand on the area, then enhancing and manipulating the image while examining the area in real time, MaxxVision said. Images can also be inverted to black on white for another perspective.
The company said it will target the system to facilities that can’t justify the expense of a full-field digital mammography (FFDM) system. iView will cost $35,000. MaxxVision, founded in 2001, is a venture capital-backed spinout of research and development firm Nanoptics.
