Proposed updates that would mandate training sonographers about contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) have drawn praise from medical imaging societies.
The Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) introduced its proposed training standards in May. If approved, these standards would require sonography students at accredited institutions to learn basic principles, safety and administration, transmission routes, common clinical applications, and enhancement patterns.
The CAAHEP draft standards align with CEUS content recently added to the National Education Curriculum.
Maria Stanczak shares her thoughts on what recently proposed training standards by CAAHEP could mean for expanding CEUS education.
This week's guest is Maria Stanczak, an assistant professor and vascular sonography clinical coordinator at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia. She is also an officer at the International Contrast Ultrasound Society (ICUS), which provided CEUS-related information to the National Education Curriculum.
Stanczak talks about the need for standardized CEUS training, her personal wish list for CEUS education, and how educators can integrate CEUS training into their curriculum.
