Toshiba Medical Systems of Tokyo has introduced a software upgrade for its premium Aplio ultrasound scanner. Dubbed Innovation 2003, the software includes new features and functions for a variety of clinical applications, as well as a new workflow package.
TDI-Q is a new tissue Doppler quantification package that allows users to assess myocardial function quantitatively based on high-frame-rate raw data. Functionality includes tissue-strain and tissue-displacement imaging functions, as well as new technologies such as angle correction and tissue tracking, which Toshiba claims enhance quantification accuracy.
Toshiba’s 1.5 Rate Subtraction Imaging is a contrast echo package that complements Toshiba’s contrast harmonics software. Toshiba claims that the technique creates contrast harmonic images with outstanding sensitivity and specificity when applied to contrast echo signals generated between the fundamental and second harmonic bands. Both TDI-Q and 1.5 RSI are pending FDA 510(k) clearance.
A new real-time panoramic view, when used with the scanner’s pulse-subtraction THI and ApliPure real-time compounding modes, gives users extended anatomical and structural information. The package also features an endorectal transducer to improve Aplio’s capabilities in prostate cancer imaging. In addition, Toshiba has applied its ApliPure real-time compounding technology to the endovaginal transducer for ob/gyn diagnostic enhancements.
On the workflow side, Toshiba added a range of new enhancements with the Innovation 2003 upgrade, including the ability to customize Aplio’s touchscreen for obstetric calculations, and the ability to personalize the interface based on user preference.
