Mevion Medical Systems is highlighting completion of the first clinical proton therapy treatment delivered inside an existing conventional radiation therapy vault, using its Mevion S250-FIT Proton Therapy System.
The platform combines Mevion's compact fixed-beam proton delivery with Leo Cancer Care's Marie upright radiotherapy platform, eliminating the need for a rotating gantry and reducing the structural footprint to that of a standard radiation therapy vault, Mevion said.
At Stanford Medicine, the approach has resolved long-standing space constraints and accelerated the integration of advanced particle therapy into an existing oncology program, according to an announcement.
The Mevion S250-FIT has received 510(k) clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and CE marking, the company noted.
