RefleXion Medical and Mirada Medical have established a licensing agreement to integrate Mirada's RegEngine image registration software into the RefleXion X1 radiation therapy system.
Mirada's algorithms align patient anatomy between different imaging modalities or between radiotherapy treatments. The software helps clinicians assess anatomy in patients with metastatic cancer, for instance, when the frames of reference of images are similar but the patient's anatomy has changed from biological processes, such as breathing or digestion, or changes in position during imaging procedures.
The RefleXion X1 machine combines a linear accelerator with a PET/CT scanner in an oversized gantry. The company is developing the system for what it calls biology-guided radiation therapy, in which the linear accelerator directs treatment photons to sites of cancer detected with the PET/CT component.
