The U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) has approved a request from radiation oncology firm Varian Medical Systems to have its Halcyon radiotherapy systems manufactured in China excluded from U.S. trade tariffs.
In the meantime, Varian's applications for exclusion from U.S. tariffs for components sourced from China for linear accelerators manufactured in the U.S. are still pending a USTR decision.
The Halcyon exemption will have a less than $1 million effect on financial results for Varian's 2019 fiscal year, the company noted. First-quarter fiscal 2019 results are scheduled for release on January 23. Additional details about the tariff announcement will be available at that time.
