Radiation therapy firm Varian Medical Systems posted increased revenue in the first quarter of its 2013 fiscal year (end-December 28).
Total revenues in the first quarter increased 8% to $678 million, compared with $625 million in the first quarter of fiscal 2012. Net earnings increased 6% to $95 million in the quarter, compared with $90 million in the same quarter of the last fiscal year.
First-quarter revenues in Varian's Oncology Systems division increased 8% to $524 million, up from $488 million in the first quarter of fiscal 2012. Revenues for the company's X-Ray Products unit advanced to $133 million in the quarter, compared with $113 million in the same quarter a year ago.
First-quarter net orders in Oncology Systems decreased 2% to $477 million, with a 4% decline in international markets and a 2% gain in North America, compared with $485 million in last year's first quarter.
