Varian to showcase updates at ASTRO

Radiation therapy firm Varian Medical Systems of Palo Alto, CA, has announced additions to its radiation oncology product line that will be unveiled at the American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO) meeting next week in Chicago.

Varian plans to unveil several hardware and software enhancements to its RapidArc radiotherapy technology, including megavoltage image guidance used to improve patient positioning, and Acuros advanced dose calculation for brachytherapy.

In addition, Varian's new virtualization capability is designed to link geographically dispersed workstations to facilitate collaboration across departments as it streamlines both treatment planning and patient chart management.

Finally, Varian will unveil several anticipated future developments, including motion management enhancements, as well as 4D conebeam CT and treatment adaptation technologies.
