GE Healthcare of Waukesha, WI, has installed the first beta unit of its LightSpeed VCT 64-slice scanner. The system was installed at Froedtert Hospital in Milwaukee and is now being used to scan patients.
GE announced LightSpeed VCT at the 2004 American College of Cardiology and European Congress of Radiology meetings. The system features a 64-row detector design and a rotation speed of 400 ms, with 0.625 mm slice widths.
GE frequently uses Froedtert as a luminary site for beta versions of products, and the hospital has also been the first to receive other GE multislice scanners. Commercial shipments of LightSpeed VCT will begin at the end of 2004, according to GE.
